Dirk Radloff This is a time-machine to the golden 80s and it's not a Retro-concept, because this album was originally produced thirty years ago. Modulated guitar-arpeggios a la Andy Summers, a soulful singer, the drum-sound ...Police is a good reference. This band of brothers shines with deep songwriting and sometimes they even enter the more modern area of the "Talking heads", just listen to "Would you press that button" Favorite track: Would You Press That Button?.

Suicide Love 02:31
If you see that girl tell her I'm looking for her She never notice she don't call And if she still says no I know she's got my number I wrote it six foot on her wall I'm telling you If she don't phone gonna set off this bomb Believe it's true If she don't call gonna end it all We lived here many years I thought she'd never leave me But now she's packed and gone away She said she had to go even though she really loved me But she just couldn't stand my ways I'm telling you If she don't come gonna get out my gun Believe it's true If she don't knock gonna tell Mr Spock It's taken too long now I really tried to please her I have changed in many ways But now the time has come it's my turn to finally leave her Its my turn to have the final say I told you now if she don't phone gonna set off this BOMB

Reflections 03:08
I look in the mirror, I see nothing there Just a reflection of my life I fear All the things that I've said and done nothing to date It's me myself I should hate I preach my views to all in no uncertain terms You'll never understand how much inside it burns Is it all the poverty that politics creates? No it’s me myself I should hate Have you looked in the mirror, did you see your face? Have you done your bit today for the human race? If not make sure you do before it's too late Or it's you, yourself you'll hate I just can't understand my life is running dry Might say self pity, that I can never deny But I don't want to be the one to dictate ‘Cause it’s me myself I hate

It always haunts me how we watch our lives away Watching the TV, eyes fixed on the box to stay (Chorus) We’re down on ground where feet are found, we never will be free The height and flight of the kite is where we want to be We never question a single word that’s said Watching the TV, believing theories that are fed Repeat Chorus It never leaves us, it’s taking over every room Watching the TV, always improving our IQs Repeat Chorus It always haunts me how it holds our every fear Watching the TV until the picture disappears Repeat Chorus

Time has passed, life has changed Path to take, rearrange Some I've trod in the past Path I want, fading fast Chorus: Still on the outside looking in Still on the outside looking in He says yes, you say no In the end, agree to go I sit here looking on Wondering why I sing my song Chorus Tied by birth, much the same Differences, age to blame Why do I feel so sad? Love for me ain't that bad Chorus Beaten both at my game Triumph theirs, just the same Made my choice, got it wrong Far behind, follow on Still on the outside looking in Still on the outside looking in.

Work hard at school and you will succeed Get the pieces of paper that you need You will get there if you are the best But what happens to us, all the rest CHORUS NO JOB, NO MONEY, NO LIFE, NO POINT NO JOB, NO MONEY, NO LIFE, NO POINT Discipline will curb your greed Much more training's what you'll need It's better now than it's ever been Hard times like these we have never seen CHORUS X 2 Lets tell the truth and not live a lie No piece for us of that money pie The youth are the future that's what we're told But what will they tell us when we're too old CHORUS X 2 So what's the point in carrying on Growing up is just one big con Haven't listened to a word I've said Perhaps you'll listen when I'm dead NO JOB, NO MONEY, NO LIFE, NO POINT NO JOB, NO MONEY, NO LIFE, NO POINT

I'm Who 04:01
I'm the one who can change the world I can make your dreams come true I have the power if I've the need To make those chains to increase the greed (CHORUS) What am I Why do I How can I I'm who I control your every thought I create the hate in you I have the power if I've the need To break your heart to make you bleed CHORUS I only love the ones I like Providing that they like me too I have the power if I've the need To make you stay to make you leave CHORUS I can change your mind to see I exist for even you I have the power if I've the need To make you look to make you read CHORUS It might be said I've got it wrong But that just puts the blame on you I had the power if I've the need To break those chains to decrease the greed What am I Why do I How can I I'm YOU

Sometime the day will come for us to make the final choice Decisions yours to make democracy will have its voice Wont make no difference if you ride a bike or drive Rolls Royce Your finger's just the same just push the button of your choice (CHORUS) Would you press that button? Would you end the human race? Would you press that button? Would you let the world continue? Is this existence worth a fight to keep the humans here Or is this just the chance to make our problems disappear Today another day try not to live our life in fear You've waited for this time to make all your opinions clear CHORUS Existence aint that bad I know we have our friends its true But open up your mind and think much further than your view There's people on this earth who live and die before they knew How much their life was worth they'll never know they never do CHORUS We have more choice today than many things have had before But we continue killing everything cause we want more Must we keep going until the humans have the highest score If that day should come near must we make the destruction law CHORUS The time is not here yet some say they hope it never will To press that button would give everyone the right to kill But as there's no one left there's no emotion left to feel Lets hope the time will come to choose if we should pay the bill WOULD YOU PRESS THAT BUTTON? WOULD YOU END THE HUMAN RACE? WOULD YOU PRESS THAT BUTTON? WOULD YOU LET THE WORLD CONTINUE?

One by One 04:02
Met a friend from years gone by Both remarked how time does fly Said he couldn't give a toss About the workers now he's boss Watched a hero of the past Say he'd seen the light at last Hope and prayed that all his fans Would put their lives in Tory hands CHORUS Yes I'm going off the world one by one Guess it wasn't meant to be any fun Yes I'm going off the world one by one People ring the radio To get their views heard on the show Can't believe the things I hear Makes me want to disappear Freddie Laker he's gone broke Some feel sorry for that bloke Send him money such a shame He's only got five million to his name CHORUS Got a visit from the Pope Kissed the ground, Christ, what a dope You could hear the people cheer Was it love or was it fear? Hear them cheer, love or fear? If what I've said gets through to you But don't reflect your point of view There is only one thing I can do You're just another join the queue Yes I'm going off the world one by one Yes I'm going off the world one by one…

You want me to be the way you are But I don’t want to go that far You want me to do the things you do I don’t want to be like you You said I’ll see, I said not me You cry, you sigh, I’m me Why can’t you stop and just agree You don’t want to be like me Why can’t you let me be alone? But you don’t want to be on your own I said you’ll see, you said not me I cried, I sighed, you’re you Why can’t you accept the way we are And go our ways and as far Accepting the things we want to do You be like me and I’ll be like you I said I see, You said and me We cry, we sigh, we’re we

God or Me 03:18
You never hear you never say Cause your not there again today You’re not worth believing You’re always deceiving So I'm leaving Yes I've started to get sane ‘Cause our life together will never be the same, be the same… Its been believed that you control Our worldly goods to you we owe But we're not receiving We just keep on breathing Yes I'm leaving Yes I've started to get sane ‘Cause our life together will never be the same, be the same… You don't exist you never will This cut’s impossible to heal So what I'm blaspheming It's better than screaming Yes I'm leaving Yes I've started to get sane ‘Cause our life together will never be the same, be the same…

Yes the war has begun Forget your rifle just run Don't want you dead Just want to control whats in your head They call it democracy You can be what they want you to be Only see what they want you to see Yes the the war has begun Forget the money just run Don't care what you need Just want to control how you bleed It's a one way philosophy Do what they say and you'll be free Believe that then you'll never believe That the war has begun Forget everything just run Don't hear what you say There you're born and there you'll stay It's destruction completely Cant believe it's you or me May be some day we all will see That the war has begun

Root Division was formed in late 1981 as a vehicle for the songs I’d started to write earlier that year. In musical terms, suppose you’d have to say that I was a bit of a late bloomer at the age of 25 and, although always harbouring secret dreams of playing in a band with my brothers, had kind of concluded that ship had already sailed off into the orange sunset.

Writing my own songs changed all that, and, over the following couple of years, the band we formed spent most of their spare time rehearsing and recording. Let me put that another way. The band spent quite a lot of the next couple of years having what could only be described as a right laugh, alongside which we managed to somehow squeeze in the laying down of twelve tracks, not to mention a lifetime of memories.

Sadly, circumstances meant that Root Division didn’t continue on into 1984 and beyond, although it certainly wasn’t for the want of trying. Looking back on it now, though, I realise that, during that wonderful couple of years, I was living the dream, so how could I possibly regret a single second?

And for the technically interested….
All of the above tracks were recorded onto Bri’s trusty old Sony 4-Track, reel-to-reel, and it was he who engineered, produced and mixed the entire album, with some slight assistance from the rest of the band, and I do mean slight.
